Legalization
of Prostitution: The “Lay” of the Law
Sex is part of life.
In fact, some people, when characterizing sex, would say that sex is
life. This seems to be an apt characterization
in this day and age. However, sex
transcends generation. Sex is timeless,
and sex is always on our minds. Maslow’s
hierarchy of needs shows that the most important issues necessary to sustain
life are breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homeostasis, and excretion (Toward A Psychology of Being, Maslow). That’s right you did hear that
correctly. Sex is as important or
perhaps more important than the bodies regulation of itself, eating, and even breathing. Can this really be true? It sounds like someone exaggerated this semi
fact in order to get a rise out of its target audience. However, fabricated as it may seem, it is the
hard truth! Thus, it is not surprise that a recent study showed that men think
about sleep eleven times a day, they think about eating eighteen times a day,
and they think about sex nineteen times a day(http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/201108/sex-intelligent-intercourse). If sex is as important as other factors which
sustain us as human beings, shouldn’t we be able to purchase it like any other
service needed to sustain life? The
answer is irrevocably, yes!
Lets discuss some facts about sex. It is a great way to reduce stress. Sex is a natural mood elevator. It does this by elevating endorphins such as
oxytocin and immunoglobulin A which leave us feeling that happy feeling! Sex helps us regulate or sleep better. Sex also helps us burn fat, and reduce risk of
heart disease and diabetes. Sex sounds
like a wonder drug just waiting on approval from our government. This issue is of the upmost importance! Would you deny an old man or woman a ventilator
if he could not breathe? Would you allow
a neighbors’ child to starve to death if he was hungry? Of course you wouldn’t! So why are we so stingy with this wonder
drug? The government says we have to be!
The term sex (latin term – coitus),means
sexual intercourse especially between a man and a woman. The word transaction
means, trading goods, currency, or services for any of the same. One term cannot be mentioned without the
other when referring to prostitution.
The terms are basically synonymous. The
Merrian-Webster dictionary defines prostitution as the act or practice of
engaging in promiscuous sexual relations especially for money. This is where the long are of the government
gets too involved. Sex and prostitution
are a part of life, always have been, and always will be.
Three reasons why prostitution should be legalized are
clear and simple. Firstly, sex is a
necessity and is pivotal in sustaining one’s life and therefore anyone with a
dollar in his or her pocket should be able to experience it. Second, sex, whether paid for or not, has ridiculous
and astonishing health benefits. One
should not be denied such benefits just because they are not smooth enough, or
competent enough to find it of their own volition. Lastly, prostitution should be legalized
because of all the jobs it will create.
In this current economic crisis we should be exploring all and every
option possible to help out our fellow Americans and allow them to earn a
living to support their families.
There is nothing wrong with wanting sex. There is nothing wrong with paying for
it. There is nothing wrong with wanting
to be healthy. There is nothing wrong
with wanting to live. Legalization of
prostitution will accomplish all of this for anyone interested while boosting
our economy and supplying our countries hard working inhabitants with job
opportunities! So take out your laptop,
or your pad and pen, write down your local congressman’s address, and write a
letter as impressive as this mission statement, and if your still not feeling
motivated to do so, let your sex drive push you!
